Eight out of ten Slavic women convicted of murder have killed in defense against domestic violence. The endless cycle of violence, from which it is almost impossible to escape, builds up gradually and ends first with a stabbing, then a colony, next with social exile, stigma and poverty.
In the latest research series in the history of samizdat, "Batenka, you are a Transformer," journalists traveled to Perm to investigate how and why women kill domestic tyrants, what happens to them afterward, and who helps them after they leave prison.
